Our teachers are what makes St. Charles an loving and educational place for your child. All our teachers are certified in infant and child CPR and first aid. We have 8 full time teachers who work in pairs to plan lessons and activities for their classrooms. Our part time teacher aides assist the teachers in the mornings and afternoon with lesson preparation and supervision of the children. |

Meet our teachers |

Miss Leah, Infant Teacher: Leah has been at St. Charles Daycare since 1999. She was born, raised and still lives in Bloomington. She was married to Bob for 41 years until his passing in 2006. She has three children: Brian, Sean and Heather and three grandchildren: Andrew, Rachel and Zachary. Leah chose to work at St. Charles because “it has been in the community for a long time. It is known for providing an environment that promotes strong Christian values. I have learned that St. Charles daycare has wonderful parents, children and staff.” Leah is an active member of her church, and is involved in outreach ministry. In her spare time, Leah enjoys watching classic TV shows like “I Love Lucy”. On warm days she loves to sit out on her porch, relaxing in her swing and reading a book. She also enjoys playing bingo. She also spends her Friday evenings entertaining residents at a local nursery home, singing opera and playing the piano. |

Miss Cortney, Infant Teacher: Cortney was born and raised in Martinsville, Indiana. She moved to Nashville with her then fiancé, now husband. Their first child was born in November 2008. Cortney enjoys a wide range of hobbies such as quilting, scrapbooking, going to museums, concerts, festivals and movies. Cortney began working at St. Charles in 2008. Previously she worked at a daycare in Nashville, Indiana. She had heard very good things about St. Charles, and felt it would be a great place to work. |

Miss Silvia, toddler Teacher: Silvia was born and raised in the city of Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She is the oldest of 5 siblings. She has a son, Gilberto and a daughter Lilia. She also has four grandchildren: Said, Axel, Seth and Natalia. In her hometown, she worked in her church teaching Catechism to children six to ten years old. She was also very active in her church’s Liturgy Ministry, Prayer Ministry and major church events throughout the year. Silvia worked for seventeen years at Cooper Industries, a manufacturer of electrical components, where she was in the accounting department. Following this she worked for Harman Becker Automotive systems in Martinsville. She met her husband Tom at Harman, and they were married in 2001. She and Tom moved to Bloomington. She started work at St. Charles in 2001, because “I love and care for children, and I think the children love me back. I consider myself lucky to be working with such nice families.” Silvia loves to go to the movies with her husband. They love dogs, and hope to adopt some one day. She also enjoys reading and exercise. |

Miss Alyssa, toddler Teacher: Alyssa was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana. She graduated from Bloomington High School South in 2003. Then spent her first two years of college at Ball State. She transferred to Indiana University, where she finished her degree in Human Development & Family Studies. Alyssa and her husband Brian were married in October 2007. They bought a house in December 2007 and live with their dog Lilly and cat Gus. Alyssa and Brian welcomed their first child to the world in December 2008. She enjoys spending her time with her family and learning how to sew and quilt. She also works at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington. She is the nursery coordinator there and plans the Sunday school lessons for three year olds. |

Miss Ellie, 2/3 year Teacher: Ellie was born in Costa Rica. She has two daughters, Gabriela and Monica, and a son, Carlos. Ellie was very excited to be in New Jersey with Gabriela when her baby Nicco was born. Monica lives in Connecticut, is a graduate of Trinity College, and works with the Hartford AIDS project. Carlos attends Bloomington High School North, and is very active in baseball and soccer. Ellie has been with St. Charles Daycare since 1994. She has worked with many ages of children, from infants to toddlers to two and three year olds. Her favorite age of children to teach is the two and three year olds. Before moving to Bloomington, she worked at the Yale Child Study Center, where she was first introduced to the field of Early Childhood Education, and to the joy and fun of working with small children. She has found this to be a very rewarding profession. Ellie and her family enjoy traveling and have visited many states and many countries from South and Central America to Europe. Most of their traveling these days is during the summers and usually is accompanying Carlos to his baseball and soccer tournaments. Ellie enjoys having fun with friends and reading. “St. Charles is my home away from home, where some of my dearest friends are. Here, the children’s hugs and kisses in the mornings, the support and friendship of old and new families, can make me forget for moment the most painful events. Saint Charles is where my other family lives. |

Miss Teresa, 2/3 year Teacher: Teresa is a lifelong resident of Bloomington and a member of St. Charles Parish. She lives with her parents, brother and sister. She was home-schooled all the way through high school and now attends Ivy Tech where she is studying early childhood education. When not at work or school, she enjoys spending time with her older sister and three nephews, along with her friends. She loves to read, listen to country and rock music, bowling and ice skating. She also helps out with the St. Charles youth group and considers herself a huge Colts fan. |

Miss Becky, 4/5 year Teacher: Becky has been a teacher at St. Charles since 1998. She has lived in Chesterton, Indiana and Mexico, but now calls Bloomington home. She received her degree in Early Childhood Education from Indiana University. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her family, especially her twin sister Amy and her niece and nephew. She loves the Chicago Cubs and tries to go see several games every year. |

Miss Anne, 4/5 year Teacher: Anne grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Miami University with a degree in elementary education. Previously, she was a 4th grade teacher. She worked at Indiana University as a supervisor of residence hall food service. She has also worked a s a substitute teacher for five years. Anne came to St. Charles because she wanted to work with the same kids everyday and had substituted in kindergarten often enough that she knew she wanted to work with four and five year old kids. She and her husband Roger live on the west side of Bloomington, where they share their home with their cat. Their daughter is married and lives in Indianapolis. |

Miss Anne, Infant Teacher Aide: Anne and her husband moved to Bloomington from Manchester, England in 1984. They intended to only stay for three years! She joined St. Charles Daycare in 1999. She has two sons, Paul and Richard, who also live in Bloomington. Anne enjoys traveling, hiking, camping and cooking. Her specialty preparing soups. |

Miss Sarah, Teacher Aide: Sarah is a student at Indiana University and is in her senior year. She is an elementary Education major and hopes to teach at an elementary school in Indianapolis or Columbus, Ohio. She is originally from Evansville, Indiana, where she has a sister and lives with her mom, step-dad and pet Chihuahua Bella Sophia. She started working at St. Charles in March 2007. Sarah has always loved working with young children and although her future career will be working with older children, it is a great experience to be with younger children. She simply adores all the children at St. Charles. Her hobbies include scrapbooking, taking pictures, singing in a worship band and coming up with new ideas to cook with her fiancé. She is always reading a new book. |

Miss Ireli, Teacher Aide: Ireli has lived in Lafayette, Blooming and Salazares, Mexico. She is a student at Indiana University, studying early childhood education. She began at St. Charles Daycare in 2007. She came to St. Charles because she heard good things about it and “wants to work with kids until I am a little old lady who is forced to retire.” Her free time is spent with her boyfriend, her dog Mini, scrap-booking, photographing, cooking, shopping and dressing up. |

Miss Katie, Teacher Aide: Katie joined St. Charles in 2007. She is a student of elementary and special education at Indiana University. She comes from Springfield, Illinois, where she grew up, but has also lived in several Chicago suburbs. Katie is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, which gets her involved in the IU Dance Marathon and Big Sisters. |

Miss Chrissy, Teacher Aide: Chrissy has been with St. Charles Daycare since 2006. Born in Corydon, Indiana, she came to Bloomington after high school. She is studying health education and physical education at Indiana University. Chrissy chose to work at St. Charles because she loves working with children and likes the great atmosphere for children and staff. She is a big IU football and basketball fan. She also coaches fast-pitch softball and volunteer with College Mentors for Kids. |

Miss Marva, Teacher Aide: Marva is originally from Gary, Indiana. As a senior attending Indiana University, she is majoring in General Studies with a focus in Human Development and Family Studies. She began working at St. Charles in early August 2008. With a great love of caring for children, Marva believes in incorporating ministry with everyday life, thus her choice to apply for a position with St. Charles. She is the second eldest in a very large and close family. Caring for children has become second nature for her. In her spare time, she actively participates in her home church family as well as a local gospel ministry in Gary and Bloomington. She also draws, paints and loves to sing as often as she can. |
